Students use their own problem solving skills and develop critical thinking skills as they investigate the role of science today in answering the questions that face society and the world in the 21st century.

Social Studies Courses

Glenview College Preparatory history courses are designed to challenge students to use their critical and creative thinking skills to explore and analysis the vast influences on modern politics, cultural relations and society through-out the world and in the United States. Students engage in high level historical examinations to make historical interpretations that link to current events.  The three-year social studies high school graduation requirement includes World History, US History, US Government and Economics.

The goal of the social studies department is to encourage students to create their own historical interpretations with the use of primary and secondary sources which will expand their research skills.  Technology and research skills are a common application in building advanced skills that students use in preparation for the Common Core Standards and in conducting their own research. Students will be able to describe and analyze global politics, relationships among countries and economic trends in history. Overall, the nature of the courses is to stretch the students’ knowledge of: American history, world history, government, geography and economics by incorporating Common Core Standards and research skills to achieve advanced social studies understanding.
