School Policies
Attendance, tardies, emergency contacts and the uniform dress code — all in one place.
Attendance
Glenview College Preparatory High School's program uses a unique 4 quarter/block schedule. During the regular school year, we offer four blocks as reflected on the School Calendar. During each block, the student is enrolled in a minimum of four courses. Each course meets five days a week. Courses Monday through Thursday are 90 minutes each. GCP will have eleven Early Release Days every Friday when courses are 60 minutes each. At the end of the block, earned credits for core and elective courses are applied to the transcript.
Attendance is critical to the learning environment and success at GCP. We maintain a strict attendance policy so that students will be able to take full advantage of the opportunities provided to them. All GCP students are expected to be regular and punctual in their attendance. Excessive tardiness or a pattern of unexcused absences will be cause for administrative withdrawal from GCP.
Transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the student; a missed bus, missed or late ride, or car trouble does not qualify as an excused absence or tardy.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is mandatory. During a 45 day quarter, a student can accumulate no more than 3 absences. Once a student exceeds 3 absences in a class during a 45 day period, a final grade of "F" will be received for that class. If a student misses more than ten unexcused days of classes, then she/he is dropped from school and must re-enroll in Glenview College Preparatory.
Students may not be signed out early during the last week of a quarter. This is the time when final exams/projects are distributed and completed. Missing class or leaving early can jeopardize a student's ability to receive a passing grade in a course.
If an absence should occur, please call the school (602-663-8606) and provide the following:
- Name of the caller
- Name and grade level of the student
- Reason for the absence
Attendance is taken each period. If a student is truant to any or all classes during a school day, a call will be made to make notification. This call may be done by a staff member or the school's automated attendance calling system. If absences are excessive, and no contact has been made regarding the absences, then the student will be counseled by an administrator, a conference will be held with a parent/guardian, and the student may be placed on an attendance contract. Students will not be able to return to class until a conference has been scheduled. See Absences - Explanations & Instructions for further details.
*Absences will only be excused within 24 hours. After 24 hours has passed the absence will not be excused.
Contact information - Illness and Accidents
Parents/Guardians (P/G) are required to furnish the school with the following current emergency contact information:
- The P/G's and student's home address and home phone number.
- The P/G's business name, business phone number and cell numbers if applicable.
- The names, addresses, and phone numbers of two (2) relatives or family friends who are authorized by the P/G to care for your student in case of emergency when the P/G cannot be reached.
It is the P/Gs responsibility to notify the school of any changes to this information. A new Emergency Contact Form may be obtained in the GCP front office. If an excused extended absence should occur, the student must arrange a meeting with parents and teachers to discuss the coursework and class time missed. If necessary, please allow 24 hours for teachers to prepare materials.
Tardy Policy
The only acceptable excuse for a tardy will be when an emergency occurs and the school is notified by a Parent/Guardian (P/G) - all other tardies will be considered unexcused. Tardies result in a disruption to the class time. The following is CGP's tardy policy:
- After three (3) unexcused tardies, notice will be given to the student and after-school detention will be given by their teacher. It is the student's responsibility to notify their P/G of the date and time provided to them by their teacher.
- After the sixth (6) unexcused tardy during a nine week block, a P/G conference will be help and appropriate disciplinary action may be taken.
- Students will only be admitted late to a class with a late slip issued by the front office.
- If a student is tardy more than 40 minutes, the student will not be admitted to class. The student will be sent to the tardy room to wait for the next period to begin.

Why School Uniforms for Glenview College Preparatory?
The Uniform in Uniformity - Educators and experts who are pro-school uniforms believe that uniforms contribute positively to students' behavior. They believe that when students wear uniforms, they feel more professional and behave accordingly. Many educators believe that students can become distracted by fashion trends and status symbol clothing. Therefore, when all students are dressed in regulation uniforms, there is less focus on fashion in the classroom and more focus on learning.
