Attendance

Attendance is critical to the learning environment and success at GCP — all students are expected to be regular and punctual.

Glenview’s program uses a unique 4-quarter/block schedule. During the regular school year we offer four blocks as reflected on the school calendar; during each block, the student is enrolled in a minimum of four courses meeting five days a week — 90 minutes each Monday–Thursday, with 60-minute courses on eleven Early Release Fridays. At the end of the block, earned credits are applied to the transcript. Excessive tardiness or a pattern of unexcused absences will be cause for administrative withdrawal. Transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the student — a missed bus, missed or late ride, or car trouble does not qualify as an excused absence or tardy.

The Attendance Policy

Attendance is mandatory. During a 45-day quarter, a student can accumulate no more than 3 absences. Once a student exceeds 3 absences in a class during a 45-day period, a final grade of “F” will be received for that class. If a student misses more than ten unexcused days of classes, they are dropped from school and must re-enroll.

Students may not be signed out early during the last week of a quarter — final exams and projects are distributed and completed then, and missing class can jeopardize a passing grade.

Absences will only be excused within 24 hours. After 24 hours has passed, the absence will not be excused.

Reporting an Absence

Call the school at (602) 663-8606 and provide: the caller’s name, the student’s name and grade level, and the reason for the absence. Attendance is taken each period; truancy triggers a notification call (staff or automated). Excessive absences without contact lead to administrator counseling, a parent/guardian conference, and possibly an attendance contract — students cannot return to class until a conference is scheduled.

Emergency Contact Information

Parents/guardians must furnish current emergency contacts: home address and phone, business and cell numbers, and the names, addresses and phone numbers of two relatives or family friends authorized to care for the student in an emergency when the parent/guardian cannot be reached. It is the parent’s responsibility to keep the school notified of changes.
